Panopticons

Have you heard about the Panopticons project to create six new architect-designed landmarks for East Lancashire?  The Panopticons will be located on high-point sites providing a striking addition to the landscape.  The aim is that they should be both visually exciting and functional and they will take the form of shelters, viewing platforms and beacons developed around the theme of 'viewing'.

Designs for the first three Panopticons are being sought through an architectural competition - one of the first three designated sites is the Cannon Battery in Corporation Park.

The Bee

Blackburn with Darwen has been identified by the Radio Authority (now OffCom) as an area meriting its own permanent local radio.  One of the contenders for the licence is 'The Bee', a locally based company that is proposing programming that will be sensitive to local needs and provide access to local organisations and groups.

Community Clean-Up

Another community clean-up day was held on April 26th - the three skips were quickly filled and a number residents expressed their appreciation of what was being and of how things were improving!).

Community members joined in the recent 'Rhodie-bashing' (reducing the spread of the rampant rhododendrons!) sessions in Corporation Park.  People have noticed other plants coming into flower in the cleared spaces.
